What Is Smartlipo™?
Smartlipo fat treatment is the latest method for removing fat with a laser.
The technique was first discovered in Europe and has recently become available
in the USA. Smartlipo™ has been used extensively in South America, Europe
and Asia for the past 10 years. This treatment involves the use of a laser
to rapidly dissolve the fat and tighten the surrounding skin almost anywhere
on the body. The procedure is done in our clinic and does not require the
use of a general anesthetic.
Does This Procedure
Have FDA Clearance?
The Smartlipo™ has been cleared by the FDA for laser-assisted lipolysis.
Who Is A Candidate
For Smartlipo™?
Smartlipo™ is an excellent technique for removal of fat from difficult
areas of the body. It is more efficient at removing fat from localized pockets
which have been proven resistant to diet and exercise and conventional liposuction.
Ideal candidates are in good health and have a pocket or pockets of fat they
wish to remove and have realistic expectations for the results.

Smartlipo has been designed to treat localized pockets of fat in the following

How Does The Smartlipo
Procedure Work?
The procedure is done at Toni's Medical Aesthetics™ & Day Spa in Festus.
Prior to the procedure, the fatty areas are marked and local anesthetic is
used to numb the area. The laser is a pen help device which is fired close
to the skin. As soon as the laser is fired, the fat cells break up. The fluid
release from the fat cells is drained away by the body's natural system (lymphatic).
The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate (gel) immediately on
contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising than conventional
liposuction, and results in faster healing and recovery. The laser also affects
the collagen in the skin which later causes the skin to tighten and shrink.
Who Will Administer
My Treatment?
Your treatment will be administered by Joseph W. Sharlow, M.D., who has been
specially trained by two of the pioneers in the development of this revolutionary
technique, Bruce E. Katz, M.D. and Michael Bruck, M.D.
How Many Treatments
Will I Need?
For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may
last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated.
Do I Have To Do Anything
Post-Treatment?
After the treatment you will need to wear a compression garment for several
days to several weeks, depending on the body areas being treated. Rest is
recommended after the procedure and activity may be resumed gradually. Refrain
from hot tubs or strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.
What Is The Recovery
Like?
Most individuals have minimal bruising and are pain-free. The bruising disappears
in 2-3 days and most individuals are able to resume their normal activities
within 24-48 hours. Any mild pain can be relieved with over-the-counter medications.
When Do I See The Results?
Soon after the laser treatment, the area will appear tighter, compact and
smaller. Within the next 6-8 weeks, the skin and surrounding area will remodel
and adjust to the body contour. The remodeling is a gradual process and the
best results are seen after 2 months.
When Can I Return To
Work After Smartlipo?
You can return to work within 24-48 hours. How Much Will It Cost? The cost
of this new procedure to rid the body of localized fat deposits depends on
the areas being treated. This will be discussed during your free and private
consultation.
